Overview

Intellicus 6 introduces Built-in Multidimensional Aggregation and Data store Engine.

The components provided are:

Cube Designer: A Data Administrator tool to define Cube structure and set Query Objects as source for Fact and Dimension data.

OLAP Engine: An Engine built into Intellicus BI Server to aggregate, store and serve cube data.

Cube Viewer: An End User tool to slice and dice cube data.

Cube Designer

Intellicus 6 introduces a web portal based Cube Designer tool. Cube Designer provides the operations of Create new cube, Edit, and Build. A Cube is made of at least one Fact data source, which provides measure fields and one or more Dimension data source that provide dimension (group by) fields. The dimensions can be further put in a hierarchy of levels. The fact and dimensions takes Intellicus Query Objects as data sources, ensures that each cube can be defined over data fetched from heterogeneous sources.

The figure below shows use of Cube Designer to define a Cube.

Each defined Cube is saved as a "Cube Object" in desired folder in Intellicus repository. You can navigate using explorer to the specific folder to edit the cube again. As an administrator you can grant "Execute, Read or Write" access rights on these objects, to appropriate users.

Building a Cube

Building a Cube is synonymous to fetching the data from the source, aggregating measures based on defined dimensions and persisting aggregated data in local file system.

The 'Build' is a background activity. Once you invoke it you can leave the screen. You can check the build status from Administrator health monitor, or by editing the cube again and checking the Build Status Tab.

Cube Viewer

Intellicus Cube Viewer provides slicing and dicing of cube data on the web browser.

The primary actions provided by Cube Viewer are:

Select a Cube: Select a Cube for starting slice and dice analysis on its data.

Dice: Choose Dimensions for Rows, Columns and Measures for the cells.

Slice: Choose Dimensions for Slice and Select values for slicing.

Grid View: Show Result data in 2 dimensional (nested in case of multiple dimensions) grid with quick response. Expand/Collapse, Drill Down/Up levels of dimensions.

Chart View: Show Result data in Chart. Choose cells/rows or columns on grid for selected data chart. Choose chart type.

For Cubes with measures of "adjustment" type, you can draw floating bar charts (also known as waterfall charts).

Grid & Chart View: Show Result in Grid and Chart in a side by Side view.

Export Results: The Grid and Chart data can be exported into PDF or Excel formats or into CSV for persistence or Data Interchange.

Save Layout: Save the viewer status to the level of slicing, dicing and drill with grid and chart views, to open the same at a later point in time.

The saved layout when opened, fetches latest data from the cube, if the cube is built recently. The saved layouts can also be set in dashboard widgets.
